This has been an incredible year and I want to begin to thank you for all you have done to make Religious Education successful in spite of all the challenges we faced. I want to thank you for all your hard work, dedication and most importantly, for your time. Thank you for making your child’s continued faith formation a priority. The staff and I could not be prouder of the incredible work that you and your children have done. So many of the children sent pictures of beautiful artwork, videos of themselves at prayer, and demonstrating a heartwarming growth in faith. It is that faith in God and our dedication to one another helps us overcome any of life’s obstacles.
St. Adalbert’s Church will be re-opening for daily masses beginning on June 29th and we will celebrate Sunday Masses beginning July 4th and 5th. We can finally once again safely receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion. While this represents a major step in our lives returning to normal, it is still important to continue practicing safe social distancing, even at Church. Please wear a mask or face covering and sanitizer when coming to Mass.
As you are aware, we were not able to celebrate the first Holy Communion and the Confirmation for our children this spring. The Diocese plans are currently being formed based upon the best information as how to safely conduct these Sacraments, and I will pass that information and dates on to you as soon as plans are finalized. Rest assured, your children will receive their Sacraments as soon as it is possible.
With this year coming to a close, we turn our attention to next September. There are still many questions about what Religious Education will look like next year. Fr. Mirek, our pastor, and I wish to open religious education with in-person teaching method, however we are preparing for both in-person and online methods of instruction. Our hopes are that we are able to have in-person classes safely in September, but are preparing for both in-person and online instruction. Next year, your child will receive both a hard copy of their textbook as well as access to an ebook version that can be accessed from anywhere. We will be training our dedicated catechists to conduct weekly mini-lessons online (about 20 minutes) online and guide students through assignments they can complete on their own. There will also be a large multimedia library our catechists will use to enhance learning. I also want to thank our catechists who have volunteered their time and left their comfort zones to learn these new technologies.
